This day commemorates the awakening of Vishnu by the gods from four months of deep slumber. A mandapa of sugarcane is erected in the Doltibari, where the marriage of a shaligrama, a round black stone, symbolic of Vishnu, with Tulasi, the sacrted basil plant, is celebrated. The shligramma, is bathed with panchamrita, a mixture of ghee, honey, sugar, milk and curd.

The months linked with chandravali are Magha, pnalguna and chaitra, corresponding roughly to Frbruary, March and April.These are the spring months, traditionally associated with Kamadeva, the God of Love. pink gulala powder is sprayed on the deity and on the devotees, and fresh sprouts of trees and creepers are used to decorate His surroundings.
